FAQs

Q. Do you sell chicks?

A. No, we don't sell chicks. We do have chicks on the farm at certain times of the year, but due to their very high care needs, special equipment and high level of customer support required afterwards, we do not sell them. We only sell pullets from 16 weeks old, when they have received all their vaccinations and have moved from Growers feed to Layers feed.

Q. Do you sell special breed chickens?

A. No, we only rear Bovans Brown chickens. This is a hybrid breed which lay brown eggs.

Q. Do you sell cockerels?

A. No, all our birds are female.

Q. Do you sell chickens for meat?

A. No, we only sell laying chickens, not broilers.

Q. Can you rehome my chickens or cockerels?

A. Unfortunately we cannot assist in rehoming birds, due to our strict infection prevention measures.

Q. Do you sell straw bales all year round?

A. Yes we do! Visit anytime within our opening hours for straw bales, we have plenty all year round. No need to ring ahead.

Q. You sell Layers Mash and Pellets - which one should I choose?

A. This is entirely down to personal preference. Both are a complete feed for a laying hen. For our own pet flock we feed a combination of both - mash in the feeders and a handful of pellets scattered in the runs as a scratch-and-find activity.

Q. Can I use hay as bedding for my hens?

A. Hay and long grass can cause impacted or sour crop if ingested by chickens, so we strongly discourage hay as bedding. We use straw in our chicken rearing barns as bedding.

Q. Can I feed my chickens kitchen scraps?

A. In the UK, feeding farm livestock (including poultry kept as pets) kitchen waste is illegal. This is to prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases, such as Foot and Mouth disease.

For optimum laying we advise to only feed Layers feed, it is a complete feed for a laying chicken.

Q. Do you take card payments?

A. Yes we do, we can take cards and cash as payment.

Q. Do you offer chicken boarding?

A. Unfortunately not, much as we would love to! This is due to our strict infection prevention measures.

Q. Do you sell chickens all year round?

A. We only sell pullets between March and September, with a reservation and pre-arranged collection system in place.

Q. Do you sell unvaccinated chickens?

A. No. All our chickens are started on a vaccination program at the hatchery, and complete this by the time they leave us, so we don't have any unvaccinated chickens onsite.
